Everyday Mindfulness and Mindful Meditation
Jon Kabat-Zinn defines mindfulness as “paying attention, in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment with a non-judgmental and accepting attitude.” People who exhibit more mindfulness in daily life experience more positive emotion and less negative emotion. Numerous research studies show that practicing mindfulness is related to better mental and physical health.
Mindfulness involves focusing on and being aware of whatever is happening in the present moment, without trying to change it. Simply notice whatever is happening for what it is, as it is. We can be mindful of our thoughts, feelings, and things going on around us.
When we are not being mindful, we can find ourselves rushing through things, functioning on “autopilot”, or getting caught up with wishing things were different than they actually are.
